I used to think living my truth meant overhauling everything – new routines, new mindset, new life. But what I’ve learned is that it can start smaller than that.
This post is a short reflection about realizing you don’t have to be “all in” to be living your truth – just awake enough to start where you are.
When Doomscrolling Sends You Spiraling
I’ve really been trying to avoid doomscrolling lately, but yesterday I gave into temptation and went down the rabbit hole.
And my algorithm is apparently fine-tuned to show me other creators who have gone through the same “awakening” as I have (that life can be more than blindly following expectations, there are alternative ways of living, etc.)…
But compared to me? These creators are next level.
They all homeschool their kids. Live on acres of land in a home they own outright. Don’t pay for Netflix. Don’t use ChatGPT. Make their own healthy food from scratch.
And when I see those things, my mind goes directly into where it always goes when on social: comparison mode. To the place that tells me I’m not doing this – living in my truth – good enough.
I should be all-in!
What business do I have posting about my transformation and helping others with theirs when I’m just chillin in my normal house with my kids who still go to normal daycare and I’m wailing on a normal (OK, party sized…) bag of Cheetos?

The Walk That Snapped Me Out of It
It took me a walk around the block and a little reflection to come to the conclusion that, actually, I do in fact have all the business sharing!
Because as much as I might someday hope to homeschool my kids and live on a homestead and make my own food from scratch (don’t tell my husband), I’m not there yet. And I don’t think you probably are, either.
You Don’t Need to Burn Down Your Life to Start Living It
I don’t think you need to hear me tell you to sell your house and live off the land. Or ditch your Oreos and get going on your sourdough starter.
You need to hear me say that you can question what’s real and what actually matters, even in the middle of school runs, work emails, and late-night Netflix. That it’s possible to go from complete burnout to feeling human again – reconnecting with yourself and your life as it’s happening right now.
Because that’s what this is all really about: not becoming someone new – just remembering who you already are, underneath the expectations.

These Baby Steps Count (Maybe Even the Most)
So yeah, maybe I’m on a path to someday be one of those off-grid, homemade-bread, homeschool-mama chicks. Maybe we all are.
But that doesn’t negate the power in these first steps we are in RIGHT NOW.
These baby steps – the awakening that comes before diving into big action – are the most important ones you can take. They matter just as much as any picture-perfect “after.”
What Living Your Truth Looks Like in Real Life
So here’s me, your not-so-extreme content creator showing up on your feed to tell you today that life can be better right now, not years down the line when it starts looking the way you think it’s supposed to because your Insta feed told you so.
This is what living in truth looks like in real life – remembering who you are and what matters, even when the world around you feels like too much.
If you’re ready to get started on your baby steps today, be sure to hop over and check out The Balanced Living Roadmap!
Let’s find real balance for real life, shall we?
Cheers – Bailee
